About the scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to promote the study and practice of Fine Arts in the studio area of painting and drawing at the University of Canterbury.This scholarship is administered by the School of Fine Arts, and enquiries should be directed there.Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, to a value of up to $5,000Level of Study: Undergraduate; Honours; Master's Closing Date: 5:00 pm (NZT) 30 September (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date) Tenure: One year Number Available Annually: One Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Must be enrolled in painting or drawing as part of a programme of study towards a qualification in Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury. Such study may be at undergraduate or postgraduate (Bachelor's, Honours or Master's) level, but must be at 300-level or higher. Must be enrolled full-time at undergraduate level, but can be enrolled full-time or part-time at Honours or Master's level Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Must be ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ-born, and/or the son or daughter of a ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ-born person For more information please read the regulations, click here.For the Application Form please click here.An applicant must be:18 years of age by the time at which the scholarship is taken up; and±¬×ߺÚÁÏ-born and/or the son or daughter of a ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ-born person.Preference will be given to applicants who have lost a parent through death.Further preference will be given to applicants who intend to study full-time.This scholarship was established in 2003 in accordance with the provisions of a Will made on 5 November 1998 by Hendrick Gerard Budewijn van der Lecq.At the time he or she accepts a scholarship offer, a recipient must provide the Trustees with the following:a full personal profile, including current address, and place and date of birth;a recent passport-sized portrait photograph of the applicant (or, alternatively, a copy of the applicant?s driver?s licence or passport identity page);a letter acknowledging the award and outlining plans and aspirations; anda photograph of some of the recipient?s best pieces of signed work (which should demonstrate ?skills in the application of all classic painting and drawing techniques?).
