Mr Bateson was a driving force in Aotearoa ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ Astronomy, and was responsible for setting up Aotearoa ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ?s only professional astronomical research observatories. He is regarded as the father of Astronomy in Aotearoa ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ.If it is necessary for their research, recipients, with the permission of the Amo Rangahau | Dean of Postgraduate Research (in the case of PhD students) or the Amo P?taiao | Academic Dean of Science (in the case of master?s students), may retain the scholarship while carrying out research for limited periods outside Te Whare W?nanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.This scholarship supports postgraduate students in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Canterbury.
