NZSL Scholarship (NZ Sign Language)

Value • The scholarship will consist of an annual $5,000 contribution towards tuition fees for the second and third years of the BA in NZSL - English Interpreting degree; or $5,000 for one year for applicants holding the Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting who wish to complete the BA in NZSL – English Interpreting degree. • The total value of each award will be a maximum of $10,000 (for BA pathway) or $5,000 for the Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting pathway.
Length The tenure of the scholarship is for up to two years depending on the pathway to the BA in NZSL – English Interpreting degree.

About the scholarship

The Ministry of Economic Development funds scholarships to support students to contribute to building a qualified national NZSL interpreter workforce by becoming qualified NZSL interpreters. These scholarships fund second and third year students who wish to complete the BA in ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ Sign Language at AUT.

How To Apply

Applications will open in early October. A link will be available to the application portal from the top of this page. Application is through the AUT on-line scholarship application system. Applicants will be asked to upload academic transcripts for all tertiary study completed at an institution other than AUT Applicants will be asked to provide the contact details for two character referees. The referees must be: • A member of the Deaf community. • A Sign Language tutor. • Employer. • High school teacher.

Entry requirements

Applicants must: • Demonstrate an appropriate level of NZSL competency (B average or higher in NZSL first year papers). • Exhibit academic achievement. • Applicants must be NZ citizens or permanent residents.
