About the provider

Te K艒hanga Reo is a M膩ori development initiative, aimed at maintaining and strengthening M膩ori language and philosophies within a cultural framework inspired by M膩ori elders in 1982.

Te K艒hanga Reo National Trust Board was established in 1982 and formalised as a charitable trust in 1983. The Mission of the Trust is the protection of Te reo, tikanga me ng膩 膩huatanga M膩ori by targeting the participation of mokopuna and wh膩nau into the K艒hanga Reo movement and its Vision is to totally immerse K艒hanga mokopuna in Te Reo, Tikanga me ng膩 膩huatanga M膩ori.

The Trust Board, as the governing body, has therefore had a key role in providing the support needed by K艒hanga Reo. This support has involved specific investment in mokopuna, wh膩nau, and their cultural infrastructure of language, kinship, relationship management, wh膩nau learning, and wh膩nau decision-making.
