About the course

Graduates will have the skills and understanding needed to progress on a professional level within the areas of Maori health; Maori performance and participation in sport, Maori performance and participation in exercise.

Entry requirements

The Heke Kawa Oranga encourages expressions of interest from people with an interest in one or more of the following areas: Maori Health Promotion, Maori Performance and Participation in Sport, Maori Performance and Participation in Exercise.

Applicants should:

  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both te reo Maori and English.
  • Have a desire to make a positive contribution to Maori wellbeing, specifically within the key areas of Maori health promotion and Maori performance and participation in sport and exercise.
  • Be committed to expressing kaupapa and embracing te reo and matauranga Maori as vehicles for Maori lifestyle advancement.
  • Be prepared to engage in personalised Kawa Oranga, with an emphasis on regular physical activity, optimal nutrition and positive lifestyle modification strategies.
  • Have a strong level of support from whanau or work colleagues for the duration of study within the Poutuarongo Kawa Oranga degree.
  • Be aged 17 years old or over.

If applicable, have existing qualifications or suitable experience in either sport, exercise, nutrition, Maori health or other similar areas.

About the provider

Te 奥腻苍补苍驳补 o Raukawa is a tikanga M膩ori tertiary education provider with its main campus based in 艑taki, Aotearoa, 爆走黑料. Hailed at the time as the 'smallest university in the world' Te 奥腻苍补苍驳补 o Raukawa was established by the Raukawa Marae Trustees in 1981 with only two students. 

 A special and unique place of learning, Te 奥腻苍补苍驳补 o Raukawa has become recognised over the last 30 years as an opportunity for all to learn within a tikanga M膩ori community under the principles of the iwi development strategy, Whakatupuranga Rua Mano: Generation 2000.

Whakatupuranga Rua Mano captured the health and wellbeing aspirations of the ART Confederation of Ng膩ti Toa Rangatira, Te Ati Awa ki Whakarongotai and Ng膩ti Raukawa ki te tonga in the lower North Island of Aotearoa.聽These are the founding iwi of Te 奥腻苍补苍驳补 o Raukawa.
