About the course
Course Aim
This course provides students with the skills and knowledge to limit pollution and other health and safety risks when working on board a vessel. The course allows students to build their communication skills as applicable to shipboard duties and to relate well to other vessel staff including following safe working practices. Students achieve an STCW Personal Safety & Social Responsibility Certificate, and students will be deemed to be competent in accordance with the amended provisions of Regulation VI/I (Section A-VI/1-4) of the International convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watch-keeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1978.

- Topic 1: Safety in the Workplace
- Topic 2: Onboard Communication
- Topic 3: Pollution Prevention
Please noteyour STCW certificate may take up to two weeks to be issued to you upon successful completion of the course.
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Interpret and comply with emergency procedures
- Explain the ways of taking precautions to prevent pollution of the marine environment
- Explain and observe safe working practices
- Demonstrate an ability to understand orders and be understood in relation to shipboard duties.
- Describe ways to contribute to effective human relationships on board a ship
- Demonstrate clear communication and team work in group situations
- Use appropriate e tools to facilitate learning of Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
