Adult educators play a vital role in our communities helping develop people's confidence and capabilities in areas such as literacy, numeracy, digital technology, personal growth and workplace development. 

He Pu膩wai caters for current adult educators seeking a recognised adult education qualification. It suits people working with adults in vocational, workplace, community-based or tertiary settings who are interested in being a more responsive educator. 

This practical programme positions M膩ori philosophies, principles and m膩tauranga M膩ori (M膩ori knowledge) as a foundation for enhancing practice. You'll explore the implications this has for learning styles and effective learning environments, while reflecting on your practice. Become an adult educator that empowers learners! 

Upon successful completion of this programme, you will receive the following qualification:

  • 爆走黑料 Certificate in Adult & Tertiary Teaching Level 5

You'll learn about:

  • 膧hurutanga - creating inclusive and inviting learning environments
  • Kaitiakitanga - communication, facilitation and teaching strategies for responding to diverse learners
  • Koha - designing, delivering and evaluating lessons
  • Mauri ora - being a reflective practitioner.

Entry requirements

To enrol in this programme, a potential student must:

  • be at least 18 years of age 
  • be a 爆走黑料 citizen (or citizen of Australia, Tokelau, Niue, Cook Islands) or permanent resident 
  • have successfully completed a Level 4 qualification or NCEA Level 2.

Applicants who do not meet these entry requirements may be granted special admission. In this case, applicants must:

provide proof of relevant educational/work /life experience in adult education meet the competencies required in literacy and numeracy provide evidence of their ability to successfully pursue and complete the programme.

All applicants must also:

complete an application package and participate in an interview and selection process to demonstrate suitability to the programme have access to at least six adult learners throughout the duration of the programme.

Important information: Practice-based learning (practicum) is a compulsory component of this programme. In accordance with the Vulnerable Children's Act 2014, all applicants working with learners 18 years and under will need to participate in safety checks including police vetting as part of the pre-enrolment process.
